My New Favorite Band: Metric

Monday, July 21st, 2008

For the last decade my favorite band has been Garbage. But, after hearing my new favorite song, I think it’s finally time to change the rankings. So without further wait, my new favorite band is:

They’ve now released three albums, and I love them all. Check out the song that finally tipped the charts, “Grow Up”. For more info check out the band’s All Music Guide entry or their Facebook site.

Hitz - March 2008

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

Granted, it’s April 1st, but I’ve been lazy with my blogging lately. So here goes the March Hitz list, in April.

Foo Fighters - Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace The first song on my list comes from the Foo Fighter’s new album called Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. The song is called The Pretender. As you can tell, if you have been following my music posts, I’m really into the alternative rock sound right now. Anything with a great guitar and drum riff, with memorable lyrics, I’m all over it.

I’ve listened to The Good Left Undone by Rise Against, more than the other songs on this month’s list. Again, the guitar riffs and easy to remember lyrics just get stuck in my head and won’t leave. I just wish I could get this song on Rock Band. Oh and by the way, if you haven’t played Rock Band yet, your missing out.

I found this next song on a KROQ playlist. It’s by Serj Tankian, and it’s called Empty Walls. This guy has some of the most unique music out there in the mainstream, if you ask me. He has a classical kind of sound to him, almost like a mix between a classical composer, Queen, and KISS. And how can you not be interested in a song made a guy that looks like this:

And finally, The Western World by Pennywise. While this song has been getting massive airplay, we wouldn’t know that right? Who listens to the radio anymore? I just wish I could find this song in a [CLEAN] version.

Hitz - February 2008

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

I haven’t really been listening to too much new music lately, but I have gotten a couple new tracks worth sharing.

Finger Eleven - ParalyzerThe first comes from a song that I’ve heard recently on KROQ. It’s made by a band named Finger Eleven and has a catchy chorus and nice hard rock riffs. It’s called Paralyzer and it’s quite cool.

Flyleaf - I’m So SickI heard this next song while watching the movie, Die Another Day. It’s has almost a metal sound to it, with somewhat screaming lyrics. But it also has a chorus that gets stuck in my head. Anyway, it’s called I’m So Sick, by Flyleaf. This song is also featured on Rock Band, it’s fun to play it! I’ll be blogging soon about Rock Band. I love it.

As always, you can listen to the new songs in the last.fm player on my website.

Hitz now available on last.fm

Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008

Check out the new last.fm sidebar on my website. Now you can listen to almost any of the songs that I’ve put on my Hitz compilations, right from your web browser. No more dealing with stupid iTunes. Yay! Unfortunetly, last.fm only gives me one playlist, so you’ll have to scroll to the bottom of the list to see the latest songs.

last.fmSo I’ve gotten sick of using iTunes to handle my Hitz music mixes. Aside from constantly getting random errors from the iTunes client (which is preventing me from editing my last Hitz, which should have two songs from Paramore), I don’t like that you can’t listen to it directly from my website and users have to be using iTunes.

I went looking for a suitable replacement and I found last.fm. Wow, these guys have come a long way from what they did when they first started. They had every song, except one that I’ve put on my playlists, which I think is pretty danged good.

Hitz - January 2008Better late than never, here are my favorite tracks this month!

January 2008 Hitz List - Check out the iTunes iMix.

Thanks to KROQ, I’ve discovered a pretty cool sounding band named Paramore. They have a nice punk-pop style sound, that I’m really into right now.

I’ve actually been listening to the Editors for awhile now, but I just didn’t get around to putting them on the list last month. They’re an indie band with an upbeat guitar track, and kind of an opposite vocal sound. I like them!

Young Folks was passed on to me by a friend. This Swedish song has a very pop-y sound, and a very funky music video to go along with it. Check out the video after the break.

Oh my gosh, I love the song Dashboard from Modest Mouse. I’ve been listening to this song for months and still haven’t gotten sick of it. Catchy lyrics and a great sound make for a hit!

Rob Dickinson has a much softer, melodic kind of sound, I like his one song, My Name is Love, but I’m not a big fan of any of his other stuff… too slow for me.

I found the last band on this list, Eisley, from the BUTR podcast (probably the best podcast on the ‘net). Anyway, they have a unique sound, something between pop and indie. Their song, Invasion, has a really nice chorus that just gets stuck in my head… even when I have no idea what they’re saying.

Hitz - December 2007

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Hitz Volume 2 coverBack in high school I used to create mix CDs full of the great songs of the time. Remember Dishwala? Matchbox Twenty? Semisonic? Those of you who’ve seen my CDs know that I created full on album art and covers for my mix CDs as well. Guess what? It’s time to bring back the Hitz, baby! Digital style :)

I’ve been listening to some songs recently that I really wanted to share. While I thought about making a podcast featuring these songs, I’m just not sure about the copyright crap involved. So, for now, I’ll stick to just writing about it, and linking you to the playlist in iTunes. Enjoy!
