Earthquake Drill – SoCal Shake Out

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

I just participated in the great Southern California Shake Out earthquake drill. It might seem lame to be an adult practicing duck, cover, and hold, but I think it was a good thing. I found a large, heavy, set of drawers next to my desk that is on rollers. I’d bet that it would be moving around during a large earthquake and could be a big potential hazard.

So if you haven’t practiced duck, cover, and hold since you were in school. Now might be a good time. You might also want to checkout your overall emergency preparedness plan.

Cool BMW with fabric body

Wednesday, June 11th, 2008

The body of this car is built with and aluminum frame connected to hydraulic and electric motors, and all wrapped in a fabric skin. It allows the car to change shape at will. Pretty amazing! This car is headed for the BMW Museum in Munich, and won’t see actual production.

Crazy 150 mph A320 crosswind landing

Tuesday, March 4th, 2008

Whoa, check out this crazy attempted landing of an A320 aircraft at Hamburg airport in Germany. It’s amazing the pilot got so close to the ground, he was way past the front of the runway by the time he touched down. According to someone in the comments the winds were clocked gusting to 150 mph (130 knots)!

More pictures at this German forum.

The most awesomus keyboardus ever

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

I’m sure you’ve heard about the Optimus Maximus keyboard by now, but, until I saw this video today, I thought it was just vapor-ware. This has got to be the most amazing keyboard ever. I can’t wait to see one in person!

Hitz – January 2008

Hitz - January 2008Better late than never, here are my favorite tracks this month!

January 2008 Hitz List – Check out the iTunes iMix.

Thanks to KROQ, I’ve discovered a pretty cool sounding band named Paramore. They have a nice punk-pop style sound, that I’m really into right now.

I’ve actually been listening to the Editors for awhile now, but I just didn’t get around to putting them on the list last month. They’re an indie band with an upbeat guitar track, and kind of an opposite vocal sound. I like them!

Young Folks was passed on to me by a friend. This Swedish song has a very pop-y sound, and a very funky music video to go along with it. Check out the video after the break.

Oh my gosh, I love the song Dashboard from Modest Mouse. I’ve been listening to this song for months and still haven’t gotten sick of it. Catchy lyrics and a great sound make for a hit!

Rob Dickinson has a much softer, melodic kind of sound, I like his one song, My Name is Love, but I’m not a big fan of any of his other stuff… too slow for me.

I found the last band on this list, Eisley, from the BUTR podcast (probably the best podcast on the ‘net). Anyway, they have a unique sound, something between pop and indie. Their song, Invasion, has a really nice chorus that just gets stuck in my head… even when I have no idea what they’re saying.

Can you rock out like a fifth grader?

Monday, April 30th, 2007

Holy cow. I think I’m smarter than a fifth grader, but there is no way in heck that I can rock out better than this kid. This eight year old really knows how to rock!

Does anyone use Twitter?

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Has anyone started to use this website called Twitter? It’s a community driven, Web 2.0, hipster-fueled, social, website… thingy. It allows you to enter short texts from a wide range of devices: IM, cell phone (SMS), website, etc. And share them via RSS to everyone else. It’s marketed as being a place where you can find out what all your friends are doing in near real time.

My questions are: what is the point? And, is anyone I know using it?

I’ll use it for today, but so far it seems like a huge waste of time to constantly update this thing. Do you really care where I am or what I’m doing all day? Do I care what you are doing? I think I’m more interested in the larger things that you do. The stuff you’re going to write about in your blog!

What do you think?

UPDATE: Just saw this video on RocketBoom. Yup! Pain in the butt!
